The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a significant awards ceremony nears, one notices an outcry for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games globally and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
