Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
